What our beauty editor is loving this season and perfect the imperfect curl!

What I’m Loving This Season

beauty may 2015BEAUTY REPORT
WRITTEN BY Lesley Holland Downey

L’Oreal Paris Blow Dry It Quick Dry Primer Spray
I noticed when getting a professional blowout that they use a spray primer, which I’d never heard of. I found this one at the drugstore, and it helped my hair feel weightless and cut the drying time just like at the salon.

Temple Spa Peace Be Still Calming Face and Body Balm
On a girls’ weekend, the house we rented was stocked with this fragrant lotion. Everywhere I went, people told me I smelled good. Needless to say, all those mini lotions went into my suitcase.

Lancôme La Base Pro Primer
I am not a fan of primers unless they really do something for me, and this one does! It smoothed the look of fine lines immediately and made my beloved tinted moisturizer silkier, more luminous and longer-lasting.

Aquiesse Tin Candle
These genius candles are in an unbreakable, go-withany-décor black container that has a secret compartment for a tiny box of matches. A perfect little present or treat for yourself.

beauty may 2015 02Nars Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien
I was lucky enough to get this as my birthday treat on a recent visit to Sephora, but unlike many giveaway products, it is gorgeous. It’s shaped like a pencil but feels comfortable and creamy like a lip balm.

Buxom Full-On Lip Polish in Nicole
I’m a sucker for lip gloss, and this one is a keeper—don’t be put off by how bright it looks in the tube. It goes on sheer for a pop of color and works for many skin tones.

Essie Nail Polish in All Eyes on Nudes
My daughter Clare, who has a great eye for color, picked this one, and I love it. This is a perfect neutral that’s a little more stylish than a sheer pink—but works with different skin tones and elongates your fingers.

beauty may 2015 03100 Days of Real Food by Lisa Leake
I’ve always believed that the food I eat shows up, for better or for worse, on my face as much as my body. Lisa Leake’s book is an accessible, easy-to-use beginner’s guide to reducing your processed food intake and following the whole food movement.

The Imperfect Curl

WRITTEN BY Tammy Dalton, Modern Salon & Spa

Now that everybody in the country has cut their hair into a long bob, what is the next step? If you are still trying to figure out how to style this trendy haircut, I have good news, ladies. It is time to stop fighting with your hair and start working with your natural texture!

The day of the perfect wave (although a personal favorite) is making its way out, and the “imperfect“ curl is taking its place. Working with your natural texture to create curl or enhancing what you already have is huge this spring. Finally, it’s okay to be a little frizzy!

I’m going to show you a really quick and easy way to create the undone curl. The blow drying is easy and you do not have to be super coordinated with a curling iron either!
