Båstad, Sweden Travel Guide

Angie Persson

As the owner and principal designer of Swell Décor in Charlotte, Angie Persson brings over 20 years of experience in interior design. Her passion for design was sparked in childhood, inspired by her mother’s love for antiques and home transformations. With a deep appreciation for both Southern charm and Scandinavian aesthetics, her design approach blends timeless elegance with a fresh, modern perspective.

While design school taught Angie the basics, she realized real life experiences and experimenting are the best ways to learn. She does not always follow textbook rules when designing spaces. The juxtaposition of old and new elements that tell a story speaks to her more than a prescriptive design formula.

Extensive global travels, particularly summers spent in Sweden, have influenced Angie’s distinctive style, which embraces creativity beyond traditional design rules. She believes in crafting beautiful, livable spaces that reflect her clients’ personalities, fostering a collaborative designer-client relationship built on trust.

Whether starting with a blank slate or curating a space rich with history, Angie finds joy in every project, guiding it from concept to completion. Beyond her work, she enjoys antiquing, traveling with her family and continuously evolving her own home with new inspirations.

SHORT TRIPS BY CAR

Hovs Hallar
10-minute drive

This nature reserve has hiking and gorgeous views. It’s my kids’ favorite place to go. Walk as far as you can. On the way, if you like warm smoked salmon, there is a fisherman who sells the best in the world. When you are driving to Hovs Hallar, you will pass a sign beside his driveway that reads “Fisk” (it is an experience to go here if you can find it). It is called Kaj’s Fisk & Rökeri. I suggest getting enough for the group and serving with boiled potatoes and “romsås.” You can get this sauce (a traditional, delicious pink sauce with caviar) from Tempo.

Torekov
Approximately 15-minute drive to the end of the peninsula

This small fishing village has restaurants and cute houses. It’s nice to walk around and see everything. Eat at Swensons (great meatballs). You can also take a ferry to the island of Hallands Väderö. For antique furniture and vintage textiles, visit Helena Rääf Inredning.

Mölle
About 40 minutes away

Do this day trip if you can fit it in—it’s a great outing. Mölle has a great harbor. Grab a drink at the Salty Dog Bar or at the Grand Hotel up on the hill with beautiful views. Ransvik (restaurant on the sea) is also very nice, on the water and close to the lighthouse. Great hiking around this area as well. On your way to Mölle, stop and drive through the quaint harbor town Arild. Also on your way to Mölle, there is a great lunch spot (one of my favorites). Flickorna Lundgren offers the best Swedish scene with a thatched roof, classic Swedish costumes for waitresses and the best bakery ever. You must try the vanilla hearts, bullar and coconut macaroons. Check hours online.

DAY TRIPS

Copenhagen
Tivoli and Nyhavn are our favorite spots. Copenhagen has so many things to do—check it out online.

Gothenburg
Also a great day trip, Gothenburg is Sweden’s second-largest city and features Dutch-style canals.
