August is coming to an end, which means my favorite season, fall, is just around the corner! This is the time of year I start thinking about cooler weather, changing leaves, football games, entertaining, fall fashion and most importantly, my home décor. Fall is a great time to add a few simple touches to spruce up your home before the holidays. Each year, I put away the summer pillows and accessories and contemplate painting an accent wall or two. But, this season, I am going old school – I am going BOLD with plaid.

Whether it is tartan, madras, painted, flannel or metallic, plaid is a must-see accent in home interiors this fall. Just like fashions on the 2014 runways, plaid is popping up everywhere in home accessories, carpet, wall-coverings, drawer hardware, pillows, furnishings, and even collars for our furry friends.

This season, there is a new spin on plaid. This classic and timeless pattern is no longer just for traditional homes, and you won’t need a smoking room to enjoy a beautiful tartan plaid! Modernize the print by using a plaid in bold pink, turquoise or yellow on pillows for a pop of color in any space. For soft or neutral interiors, try a gray plaid as an accent or a metallic plaid on a mirrored chest for a subtle hint of this classic favorite.

I personally love a mix of traditional and mid-century modern designs to bring an unexpected twist to a room, dinner table or conversation piece sitting in the corner. For trendsetters who want a fun but conservative approach, use plaid to impress your guests on your dinner table with candleholders and napkins or incorporate it into your invitation design.

My mind is spinning for everything plaid. I guess you can say… I am Mad for Plaid!
