This season has so many different trends that I have had a hard time deciding on which I like best and want to write about it in the blog today. I think the overall feel of the season is Boho Chic with a Romantic Bohemian essence. It is relaxed with long, languid silhouettes and definitely has a retro 70’s feel. At first I had an aversion to going back to the 70’s (or any time frame that I feel like “I have been there, done that!”) Not that I would admit that I experienced 70’s fashion before, just reporting on what I think it was like!! haha!! Actually what I love about this style is the ease and effortless feel of the pieces that can be put together. I love the wider leg pant with a tall platform that makes you look like you “have legs for days” and gives the illusion of height. Chunky heels and platforms are comfortable options for a higher heel. There are many versions of the wide leg pant resurfacing from jeans to trousers to flowing palazzo pants. The high waisted pant has made its long awaited return. Now you can hide that muffin top and accentuate your waist!! Wearing a heel will help you avoid the dreaded “mom jean” look!!! Also choosing a well fitting designer jean will help flatter your figure.
The jewelry trend lends itself to the ethnic look and brings to mind pictures of exotic places we have traveled or would dream of visiting. I have always felt that turquoise is never out of style and the color is bright and flattering to everyone. There are many options in horn, bone and beaded creations to add just the right pop to your outfit. You will see suede and fringe revisited in new and exciting ways. Be careful to keep an open mind and find the version of the trends that will work for your personal style and wardrobe. Designers are very clever when incorporating new trends and are always aware of their customer’s likes and taste. Spice Market Colors and Neutrals are working together to create this relaxed “hippy chic” feel.
Of course denim is another huge trend and there are so many versions from distressed, worn and faded jeans to sophisticated denim trousers and suits. We are going for a more casual look but these pieces can be used in so many ways. I love investing in great basics that can work well in your wardrobe to achieve many different looks. With the high waisted pants, a cropped jacket will give the most flattering look. Oversized jackets and tops usually work best with skinny jeans or pants.
The bucket bag is another huge trend this season. They come in all sizes, colors and textures. This is a great place to incorporate a little fringe if you like. All kinds of skins from snakeskin to reptile are the neutral pop for your accessories in handbags and shoes. Look for the pieces that you will wear for years to come. I love the mix of texture and neutral hues of these great investments. From flats to platforms in shoes and bucket bags to clutches in handbags, these skins are items worth purchasing and vary greatly in price point. I will testify that I have had some Carlos Falchi pieces for more years than I am willing to admit. They have never gone out of style and still look new.
