Peachtree Road Farmers Market

WRITTEN BY Carol Cawley

H&F Bread Company

If you’re in Atlanta and want to satisfy your farm-to-table culinary aspirations, you should spend a Saturday morning in the parking lot at the Cathedral of St. Philip in Buckhead. This is where the Peachtree Road Farmers Market (PRFM) takes place from March to mid-December. Founded in 2007 as a joint project by Gina and Linton Hopkins of the venerable Restaurant Eugene and the Cathedral, PRFM is the largest market of its kind in Atlanta. Everything your eyes will feast on there has been grown, raised, produced or fashioned by the vendors who frequent the market.

PRFM is a cornucopia for the senses so get ready for the assault—from greens heady with the scent of the dirt they were recently plucked from, to brilliantly vibrant seasonal produce, to the smell of sizzling sausages and the classic flavor of a Nutella crepe.

What to Try

Souper Jenny

And, yes, you should come hungry because not only will you be stocking your kitchen with the freshest fruit, vegetables, meat, eggs and seafood from local purveyors but you will want to savor your way around the 60-plus stalls too. Start with a slice of smoky chorizo from The Spotted Trotter, or a nibble of raw milk Brie from Greendale Farm, or some crackers slathered with organic maple-caramel almond butter from Georgia Grinders. For your entrée, you might choose Souper Jenny’s always-in-demand turkey chili, or a juicy farm burger made with grass-fed, dry-aged beef raised on verdant Georgia pastures.

If you get to the market early you might prefer to breakfast on wood-fired pizza with tomato sauce and a farm fresh fried egg from S&J’s or a sugary almond croissant from H&F Bread Company and an aromatic coffee from Batdorf and Bronson Coffee Roasters. And if you don’t top all of this off with a little pecan pie from Sweet Auburn Bread Company, you will miss out on the quintessential culmination of a Southern spread.

So next Saturday morning, grab your reusable shopping bags and make sure you have cash in your wallet. Then load up your dog and head to 2744 Peachtree Road—you’ll be very glad you did!
