“Terra Verte” at the Georgia Museum of Art

Patricia Leighton, a Scottish artist, has been making art for more than 25 years. Her works of art integrate both the history of a given site and the relevant environmental and ecological conditions. Patricia works closely with a diverse creative team of professionals from fields such as ecology, engineering, architecture and landscape architecture. She has created works of art in Scotland, England, Wales, South Korea, Bulgaria; and within the United States, New York City, Charlotte, North Carolina, and Roosville, Montana.

Patricia describes her unique works of art by, “Having grown up surrounded by Scottish hills and mountains of ever-changing color, texture and light; having traveled Britain and Europe viewing ancient sacred sites like the Ring of Brogar in Orkney or Hagar Qim in Malta, I have experienced first-hand a sense of timelessness and hidden mysteries. I seek to capture this sense of presence in my work and the intrinsic echoes of the landscape.”

Currently, Terra Verte at the Georgia Museum of Art showcases six “growing cubes” elevated in frameworks of steel filled with living vegetation, sited throughout the three tiers of the space. Located in the Jane and Harry Willson Sculpture Garden, Terra Verte will be exhibited May 31th, 2014 through May 31th, 2015.
