2020 has clearly been a year of ups and downs—probably with more downs for most of us. I know that I have felt “flooded” with problems and issues. As the holidays descend upon us, I know that celebrations will look different this year. I’m sad that my mom won’t be able to be with us because she is at high risk for COVID-19 complications. It really just breaks my heart. But hopefully this will pass, and 2021 will be a wonderful year.

Back in May, I was invited to a visionary women’s luncheon which of course was cancelled. A few weeks ago, a package came in the mail with a hand-blocked tablecloth and an uplifting note. I want to share it with you because it touched me so deeply. These are the things that will heal us and continue to lift us up: “Take care of yourself and those less fortunate who need your care. Listen with your heart. Find your purpose and pursue it with passion. Value and respect others. Confront what challenges you. Seek to understand. When frustrated with perceived lack of progress in the world, know that not all progress is seen. And remember, empowered women empower other women.”

I hope these words will rest in your hearts. I pray that you all have a safe and happy holiday season, and that 2021 will bring peace and community to you and those around you. Hopefully our holiday issue will bring a little joy and offer a retreat from the world around us.
