Aspen Travel Guide

Maggie Staton

Maggie Staton, originally from Athens, GA, attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After college, she moved to Atlanta for law school, where fate led her to meet John atop Aspen Mountain while skiing with friends. Two years later, John proposed at that very spot. Now, the couple has three children, who they’ve raised in Atlanta, but their love for Aspen keeps them visiting multiple times a year with family and friends. “Aspen is more than just a mountain town for us,” says Maggie. “It’s a place brimming with cherished memories, family traditions and beloved spots that make every visit special. From fine dining and boutique shopping to outdoor adventures and local culture, there’s always something new to experience in this charming mountain retreat.”

Play: Things to do in Aspen

Aspen is an outdoor enthusiast’s dream, offering endless activities year-round:

Skiing, Hiking, Biking, Golf and Fishing
We love doing it all! Aspen’s varied terrain and beautiful surroundings make it perfect for these activities.

Aspen Saturday Market
On Saturday mornings in the summer and early fall, start your day by strolling through the farmers market before heading out for your adventure.

E-Bike Adventures
Renting an e-bike is a great way to explore the area. We recommend biking to the Pine Creek Cookhouse for a scenic meal, Woody Creek Tavern for some laid-back fun or to the iconic Maroon Bells, one of Colorado’s most breathtaking sights. Finish with a bite at Home Team BBQ—it’s always a good time!

Favorite Hiking Trails
Whether you’re looking for a challenge or a leisurely walk, these trails offer incredible views:

Hunter Creek Trail: A classic Aspen hike with beautiful scenery.

Tabor Lake Trail: A rewarding challenge and stunning alpine lake views.

Cathedral Lake Trail: Another great option for those seeking breathtaking vistas.

Ute Trail: Located right in town, it’s a steep but rewarding climb.

Belly Up
After a day full of skiing or exploring, unwind with live music at one of Aspen’s most iconic venues.
