A tropical chinoiserie dining room makes a dramatic statement in dark sapphire blue and gold. Hand painted Fromental panels were custom colored with bits of “hot coral” that was also selected for the chair velvet. The client’s antique sideboard and consoles give the space patina while the papier-mâché chandelier, klismos-style chairs, and classic round table help modernize the underlying classic traditional mood. “The room was designed to take you on a journey to another place while you are in it,” says Gray.
