Beauty Report: Summer Clean-Up

WRITTEN BY Lesley Holland Downey

This summer brings the promise of a return to a normal (ish) life on the horizon. But my takeaways from the pandemic months persist as I realize I may not want to spend time the way I used to. So this season, I am taking a deep dive into products that are cleaner and more effective—multitaskers for the most performance and least effort.

Dazzle Dry Nail Kit
During the pandemic, I realized how much I like having my nails look nice without spending time at a salon. Enter Dazzle Dry, a kit that’s easy to use and nontoxic. It lasts like a gel manicure without damaging your nails.

Westman Atelier Cosmetics: I am obsessed with this line of luxury, clean cosmetics with skincare ingredients to nourish and protect the skin.

Lip Suede: Les Nudes
Four luscious nudes packed in a chic compact—why do we have all these lipsticks when Gucci Westman has picked four soft colors for us to customize our own shades?

Super Loaded Tinted Highlight
Another multitasking product from Westman Atelier—used for face, eyes, and lips—the perfect shimmer highlight that is flatteringly luminous without looking too blingy. Perfect for travel too!

Squeaky Clean Liquid Lip Balm
I love a juicy lip gloss for moisture and shine, especially one without mineral oil, phthalates, or other questionable ingredients. Choose Ma Puce and Pipsqueak for a pop of color, and Garconne, Nou Nou, Nana, and Chou Chou for sheer pinks, corals, and nudes.

Victoria Beckham Beauty Bitten Lip Tint
Gives effortless color to the lips without staining your mask.

Lorac PRO Skin Glass Skin Primer
Makeup artist Lindsay Regan Thorne prepped models for the Peachy Capsule Collection runway show with this “glass skin in a bottle” primer by Lorac. It ensures a smooth, plump, luminous canvas.

Ilia The Necessary Eyeshadow Palettes
Many powdered cosmetics have talc, which is a known carcinogen. Ilia’s clean eyeshadows are talc free, super blendable, and come in beautiful warm and cool nude shades.

Elta MD UV Restore
My absolute new favorite, an everyday mineral-only tinted moisturizer and sunscreen in one. Layer over your vitamin C product or hyaluronic acid for the ultimate protection and antiaging impact.

Skin by Blair Pigment Pads and Angie Love Skin Brightening Antioxidant Pads
Besides being vigilant about using SPF, I’ve been working on my hyperpigmentation with these pads. Used twice a day, you can see the brightening impact of the active ingredients in as little as four weeks.

Supergoop Glowscreen and Glow Oil
My inner teenager longs for slathering on oil, but my adult brain needs the practicality of a high SPF sunscreen. Both Glowscreen SPF 40 and Glow Oil give the skin a beautiful radiance, not the telltale white residue of a heavyduty SPF.

Revision Skincare BodiFirm Contouring Lotion
Wearing shorts or a bathing suit can be daunting as we age, so fight crepiness and sagging skin with Revision’s BodiFirm Contouring Lotion, clinically proven to improve skin laxity and tone.
