Be Springtime Ready with Capizzi MD

Why spring may be a good time for that procedure you’ve been thinking about…

At Peachy we think feeling great about yourself is always in season.

But if you’re looking to make a few changes, streamlining the process to maximize results and minimize downtime then springtime may be your best bet.

The right time is when you feel like it’s the right time

There’s always a lot of chatter around this time of year about renewal and preparing for summer. And, we’re here for that, but what we’re always interested in is how you nurture your most abundant life.

If it’s time to make some changes that you know will reduce your anxiety and boost your confidence then a holistic approach with simultaneous procedures is something to consider.

What does ‘simultaneous procedures’ mean?

We asked nationally renowned and highly sought-after plastic surgeon Dr. Peter Capizzi, “Simultaneous procedures, sometimes referred to as a ‘mommy makeover’ often involve multiple procedures performed simultaneously, such as a tummy tuck, breast augmentation, and liposuction.

By combining treatments, you can streamline scheduling, reduce costs, and undergo anesthesia only once. Moreover, recovery time is often shorter as the healing process for different procedures can overlap.”

Liposuction versus Tummy Tuck – what’s the difference?

Olivia, Director of Operations, Capizzi MD Cosmetic Surgery & Med Spa says “We always ask: Did you have a c-section (if so, do you have a “shelf” of tissue), and “Have you had multiple pregnancies?” Those two things almost always guarantee the need for a tummy tuck, to put everything back together ‘correctly’.

This is why a consult is so important to help determine your customized plan.

Olivia continues “Pregnancy stretches your abdominal muscles away from each other. By only reducing the fat in that area (liposuction), we don’t actually fix any muscles or remove skin. Most patients who call us about abdominal liposuction are really tummy tuck patients. Sure, you can find someone who will just do lipo but you won’t be happy. Our goal is to take the results that you want and build the treatment plan that best fits your needs.”

Tummy tuck terms explained:

  • Mini: removal of excess skin alone
  • Standard: muscle repair (including diastasis recti and/or umbilical hernias) + removal of skin/tissue,
  • Extended: is where the muscle repair extends to the sides of the abdomen,
  • Circumferential: muscle repair and tissue removal that goes all around the body (most common in massive weight loss patients or post-bariatric surgery).

Realistic Planning is 3-6 months out

Whether it’s just time to make a change or if you have a wedding or big trip scheduled – planning for surgery 3-6 months in advance is recommended. “Giving yourself time before the next big event allows for a smoother recovery without the pressure of “needing to be better” by a certain time. If you don’t have an upcoming big event, then plastic surgery can be easily worked into your existing routine,” says Olivia.

Simultaneous procedures healing guide from the Capizzi Team:

While everyone is on their own journey – recovery times may be less than what you think. Time off for breast augmentation is 1-2 days, and after a tummy tuck is about 7-10 days.

  • Tummy tucks, most patients return to work after about 7 days.
  • Liposuction, patients can return to work within a couple of days.

Pain can vary as well, most breast patients will take pain relievers for 1-2 days. Tummy tuck patients may require them for 5-7 days before transitioning to Advil/Tylenol.

“Our business is based on helping people feel their best in their own skin. It’s really emphasizing the holistic benefits of aesthetic medicine, from improved self-esteem and confidence to reduced stress and anxiety, and an increased quality of life that all come from harmonizing the inner and outer self. Life is a beautiful journey, and it should be celebrated as such,” says Olivia.

The timeline your best friend who has had simultaneous procedures would share with you:

Week 1: Rest and recuperate, you can walk and take the stairs, and you can shower the day after. Take it slow at first until you feel comfortable.

Week 2-3: Continue to rest but return to normal daily routines.

Week 3-4: Begin to return to light workouts as you feel able, swimming is permitted around this time.

Week 4+: All normal routines including intense workouts can be resumed by this point, your body is still healing so refer to your surgeon for specific clearances.

Week 12: This is when most patients would be considered fully healed, no swelling or compression needed, etc.

Choose you

What you’re really electing for is yourself.

Regardless of whether you select one or more procedures having a team of experts guiding you and dedicated entirely to providing you with care and achieving the results of what you want is transformational.

Starting with a consultation is imperative.

Olivia concludes “All our procedures are performed in our accredited onsite surgery suite It’s a mark of distinction that signifies our commitment to the highest standards of patient safety and quality of care and a valuable asset for patients seeking a safe and high-quality surgical experience. In addition, our surgical team members are hand-picked by Dr. Capizzi and you will have met many of them during your consultation and pre-op appointments.”
