Boston Beauty with Designer Elizabeth Georgantas

Interior designer Elizabeth Georgantas took this suburban Boston home from spec to spectacular, proving it’s never too late for good design to step in.

Elizabeth’s client—renowned jewelry designer Katherine Jetter—purchased the home in 2021 when it was already 75% built as a spec property.

Elizabeth set out to reimagine the new construction, making it appropriate not only for the family of four but as a work environment for Katherine and a place to entertain friends and clients.

“It had to be comfortable enough for my client to work in every day, but sophisticated enough for her to be able to sell high-end jewelry pieces, and host related business events,” says Elizabeth.

The kitchen cabinets were already lacquered with a high-gloss white that Elizabeth said was too sleek. “I refinished them in a matte black which created a more sophisticated and sexier look.” The black cabinets complement the black granite tops of the island’s waterfall counter.

Benjamin Moore’s ‘Salamander,’ a dark mix of black, blue and green, adds depth to the bar and seems to change color depending on the viewer’s angle and the light.

Elizabeth notes that, “Given that Katherine has to be able to constantly open her home to clients for events, the flow out into the great room from her office allows for circulation including access for catering from the bar and out of the kitchen.”

The low-seating sofa, Edra’s ‘On the Rocks,’ in the great room allows a sightline to the pool and beyond from the kitchen on the opposite side of the open space. The room is anchored by the fireplace which uses the same material as the kitchen countertops.

There is a lot of natural light throughout the home thanks to massive windows, tall ceilings and large open spaces which allow the light to travel and reflect.

It was important to Elizabeth to be able to have each area feel connected to the next, and yet individualized in its own design. The stairwell is a great example of this and features a Bocci light installation.

“The lights have little bubbles in them which I felt looks like champagne—so we ‘sprayed’ them all up and down the three-level staircase as if someone had partied and sprayed the house with champagne.”

Elizabeth suspended Nina Zupanc’s cheeky ‘Cherry Lamp’ ceiling light over the austere black marble tub, creating a mix of metal-glam and plumpy shapes alongside a vintage Italian bar cart.

The primary bedroom, a haven for relaxation with Boston skyline views, elicits a Hollywood vibe with a dreamy mix of luxe tones. Soft whites, mauve and lavender are all level-set with Benjamin Moore’s ‘Classic Gray’ and Cowtan & Tout’s wallpaper, ‘Agra,’ in eggshell, which is 50% linen.

Hi. I have been trying desperately to find out which issue I saw a blue-painted bar with beveled mirrored tiled backsplash. I believe I took a screenshot of it this spring but as much as I search, I can’t seem to find it. Anyway, I LOVE the mirrored backsplash and was wondering if you know the fabricator? Thanks!
