From soft powdery hues to ocean-inspired tones, blue brings a sense of calm, freshness, and escape into any space.

Whether paired with crisp whites, sandy neutrals, or sun-washed textures, it remains unrivaled in capturing the easy elegance and laid-back spirit of summer.

Consider this a journey through a few of the spaces we’ve never stopped thinking about, rooms we want to return to season after season, if only in our minds.

Interior designer Elizabeth Markel transformed this suburban Boston home from spec to spectacular, proving that it’s never too late for good design to make an entrance. And we’ll have another, please, barkeep, because this moody hue deserves a second round. Benjamin Moore’s “Salamander,” a rich blend of black, blue, and green, cloaks the space in depth and drama, shifting beautifully in the summertime light.

“My client knew she wanted a mural in her dining room. We were on a buying trip in Atlanta and met with the director of Fromental, and after looking through many designs, she fell in love with a chinoiserie garden. She made classic and bold decisions, and navy blue was her choice, and I gave it my stamp of approval. We thought the gold and navy combination with the coral splash was so timeless,” recalls interior designer Gray Walker.

Summer whimsy meets shades of blue and a dreamy view in this second-floor living room—an inviting retreat designed for long, languid days. A sink-right-in sofa and custom-built-in wet bar make it the perfect place to unwind as the sun goes down.

Jewel-box dreams open in a wash of deep teal walls and glints of gold accents; the space is cool, elegant, and just right for a sun-drenched summer day. Framing interior designer Janie Molster’s living room is an Art Addiction image. Molster shares, “It’s in honor of our beloved Tar Heel mascot, ‘Ramses.’ Every fan who has visited has made an offer on the ‘Ramses’ diptych.”

Summer is beautifully served in this sun-soaked kitchen, where a stunning French blue Lacanche range takes center stage against a striking chevron-patterned Calacatta Oro marble backsplash. The crisp blue evokes clear St. Louis summer skies, while the warm veining of the marble adds a layer of timeless elegance. Equal parts polished and inviting, the space feels tailor-made for leisurely breakfasts, garden-fresh meals, and long summer evenings gathered with friends and family.

Keeping summertime office hours feels easy in this Cape Cod home. Fashion-forward fabrics throughout the home from Missoni and Pierre Frey lend a fresh, contemporary edge to the upholstered pieces and window treatments, while the bold blue hue gently draws the eye toward the sweeping ocean views beyond.

In each of designer Melissa Rufty’s projects, she chooses one room to create a dramatic moment in an otherwise “white-walled” house. In this home, she chose a rich glossy blue for the den. “It reflects the light so beautifully during the day and allows the room to take on a sultry mood at night.”
